A retreat is a great way to take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It can be a time to relax, reflect, and recharge.
When me and my girls decided we were all in need for some self care and wellbeing we started looking for a retreat. However, going on a retreat can be expensive and time-consuming.
Fortunately, you can create your own DIY retreat without breaking the bank. Here is what we did to create our DIY retreat so you can create your own:
1. Choose a Location
The first step in creating your own DIY retreat is to choose a location. This could be your home, a friend’s house, or a rented space. The important thing is that it is a place where you feel comfortable and can relax.
We opted for a lovely 2 bed villa in Norfolk. It came with its own a hot tub and a shared pool (which was only shared with 2 other villas)
2. Set an Intention
Before you start your retreat, it’s important to set an intention. This could be anything from wanting to relax and unwind to wanting to work on personal growth. Setting an intention will help you stay focused during your retreat.
Due to one of my friends having health issues, this was focused on relaxing the mind and the body and to spend time away to manifest what we all want for our future.
3. Create a Schedule
Creating a schedule for your retreat will help you stay on track and make the most of your time. Make sure to include time for relaxation, reflection, and any activities or exercises you want to do.
we made an itinerary that we shared in a group chat. Even though we had a set plan we didn’t force ourselves to do any of it. As the main goal was to be relaxed.
With the pressure off we did it all plus more
4. Unplug
One of the benefits of going on a retreat is disconnecting from technology and the outside world. Make sure to unplug during your DIY retreat by turning off your phone and avoiding social media.
This wasn’t something we had planned, especially as we are all mothers. But the signal was so bad we didn’t have any choice. It really helped make the day last and to really get the mind switch off we all needed.
5. Practice Self-Care
A DIY retreat is the perfect time to practice self-care. This could include taking a bath, getting a massage, or practicing yoga or meditation.
We included all of the above within our plan, but it is what you need the most. We also added in a “dip and sip” which gave us time to sit in the hot tub with a drink and vent away. Something we all needed as we hardly see each-other in our hectic lives.
6. Write or Draw
Journaling is a great way to reflect and keep track of any insights or breakthroughs that you may have whilst on the retreat. Take some time each day to write down your thoughts and feelings. Or release anything you need to let go of. Or take the time out to remind yourself of your goals and ambitions.
However this is also subject to suit you. We decided to make lists that we are grateful for and to write a message to the universe of the humble things we want to bring into our lives.
I made a note to bring a load of art supplies (Pencils, Pens, Paper, Watercolour, Pencil Colours) just incase we found the spur to be creative. A lady from the other lodge had also brought her pencil and pad and was drawing. Having the tools to let your creative energy flow will allow you to feel inspired.
7. Connect with Nature
Spending time in nature can be a great way to recharge and connect with yourself. Whether it’s going for a hike or simply sitting outside, make sure to spend some time in nature during your DIY retreat.
We done this by Earthing/Grounding, we also spent time to touch and feel the trees. Taking the time to be with and to appreciate nature works wonders for the soul.
8. Bring a Friend
Bringing a friend along on your DIY retreat can be a great way to share the experience and provide support for each other.
A DIY retreat can have a profound impact on our emotional well-being, as it allows us to escape the pressures of everyday life and reconnect with ourselves and loved ones. This trip was no exception – it was a transformative experience that touched the hearts of all four of us.
Throughout our time away, we felt a sense of liberation and release, as we were able to let go of any external pressures or expectations. The emotions that emerged during this trip were raw and authentic, bringing us closer together and reminding us of the unconditional love we share.
We girls hold a special place in each others hearts, and this trip served as a powerful reminder of just how important they are to us. In the midst of our busy lives, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters. However, this retreat allowed us to strip away the distractions and be fully present with each other.
The DIY nature of this retreat made it even more meaningful. By planning and organizing every aspect ourselves, we were able to create an experience that catered specifically to our needs and desires. It was a testament to our ability to take control of our own happiness.
